Problems, Solutions and Savings for men over 40

Today I bring you my husband's story.

My Problems

At 40, I was overweight; my feet hurt, my back hurt, my arms hurt, and I was starting to get arthritis and my body has really bad psoriasis. My ex-wife has just died of a heart-attack and my father was in the hospital dying of cancer and COPD.  I was simply waiting for my tumor, cancer, stroke, etc. My new and improved wife said that with the right diet, exercise and supplements I could overcome that fate.

My Solutions and Savings

I am 46 years old now. My weight is good, depending on my exercise routine. My feet, back and arms no longer hurt, my body does not ache with arthritis, and my psoriasis is almost completely gone. I don’t feel tired and worn out like I used to feel. I am not waiting for the tumor, cancer, or stroke. I am actively trying to prevent these things from coming; I do not see them as my fate anymore.

In addition, I am paying only half as much for medical insurance now. I went from $875 to $475 a month. I had Life Insurance test and I came out as “SuperPreferred”. I don’t get sick enough to see doctors anymore, plus I don’t need to get prescriptions or deductibles, nor take time off of work. All the money I save I use to stay health and prevent the health problems I once had, and prevent the tumors, cancer and stroke.

A much better retirement savings plan than 401K or the stock market

I totally agree that it’s smart to plan for our retirement years. However, why risk putting our hard-earned money into the stock market as a retirement plan when the stock market can crash at any time? Why set aside $400-$500 a month in a 401k to save for retirement years when you can invest just $150-$200 in a company that gives you the opportunity to save $2000 or more for retirement, while at the same time keeping you healthy NOW and LATER so that you can actually enjoy your retirement? Interested in knowing more about this plan, then read on =)

When you invest $150-$200 in Young Living Essential Oils every month, the company gives you a way to make a bonus check every single month of $2000, which in turn you can save for your retirement years in a savings company like ING that gives you a pretty good return on your money. If you do that, you will be saving $24,000 a year, plus interest. Even without interest, $24,000 is a great retirement savings plan, don’t you think? Say you are 40 years old right now and plan to retire at 60, that would be $480,000 in savings! Say you decide to retire when you are 65 because you love what you do… then that would be 25 years from now, giving you $600,000 in savings (plus whatever interest you may get). Pretty amazing, isn’t it?? Sure beats the $6000 a year, or $150,000 when you retire at 65, if you simply set aside $500 every month for a 401K; plus you are not investing in your health right now; in fact, you are spending a lot on your health since you are paying a high insurance premum in medical insurance, right?

So what makes more sense to you? Personally, I think that investing in Young Living is the smarter choice to make when it comes to a savings retirement plan. Plus, the cool thing is that the products they offer truly work amazingly. I’ve used them for 3 years now and they’ve made a tremendous difference in the life of my family and in my own life. But why simply trust me? Ask many of the other Young Living users all over the world! Their life has been changed tremendously since they started using these products. Experience them yourself, and give yourself a chance to invest in an excellent retirement plan at the same time.

Miss Cigarrette - Your Love Affair

Cigarettes. That little thing that you HAVE to have. No you’re not addicted, right? Naw!Oh and it's not effecting you either, right? Of course not. That is...not now, not right away that is.That's the sneaky thing about this habit. It doesn't seem to be doing you any harm. Seems even to help you some. You say to relax...yeah.Then after years of smoking you find that you tend to get sick easier. You start having a cough when you don't even have a cold. Ah but it's no big deal, right? Everyone gets a cough from time to time. Never mind that you’re coughing everyday now. You can handle that, after all cigarettes are your friend. You wake up wanting one, and you kiss it good night before going to sleep. It's a real love affair now!

Your love affair with her has grown considerably. Not only do you wake up wanting her, and kissing her good night, but during the day you can't do without her either. You keep her close by and never ever leave home without her. She lights up your life, and you light up hers. You even find yourself wanting more of her as time goes by. Admit it, you can't do without her even for a day. You’re willing to spend anything you have on her, just to have her again and again. Over time she gets more and more expensive, but you don't care, price is no object for the one you love. Then one day, this love affair goes sour. She attacks your heart, like never before. She causes you to cough uncontrollable and your heart pounds and then freezes! You can't breathe. You are bought down to your knees at her becking call. You are begging her to stop, to let you breathe. Suddenly you find you’re back flat on the ground and your love spilled all around you. As you gasp for your last breath, you know she has betrayed you, but it's too late. You will never taste her again. You are now dead.

It's possible to be healthier at 40 than at 20!

When it comes to fitness, we all have a story to tell. It’s hard to follow a fit lifestyle when most of the people around us, including friends and family, are following an unhealthy lifestyle. However, by following a healthy lifestyle ourselves relentlessly, we can actually inspire those in our family to get fit and healthy.

What inspired me to started getting fit and healthy was the fact that I was overweight in highschool and college and I just kept going up and up. When I was asked to be a bridesmaid for a friend’s wedding, I was floored when my dress size was a size 16; shortly after that, I got gall bladder problems, most likely because my body couldn’t process anymore fat. I knew that I simply had to do something about it. I followed my doctor’s advice and took some pills and went on a non-fat diet for a month, but after that month, I was back in my old habits since I lived in a dorm. After I finished college, though, I took a turn towards the best.

I moved to college town with my first husband since he wanted to continue his studies. I bought a book called “Chris Imbo’s Peak 10 Fitness” by Chris Imbo and his wife. I followed the exercise program written out there to a T; I would go out and jog exactly the amount of time it said I should do (everyday was different) and I followed the weight routines as well. I also followed the nutrition program exactly as written out, though it was tedious work. I started losing weight and getting fit and I loved the changes!

My husband then decided to leave me and my life got messed up for a few years. I realized though, that I needed to take care of myself so I didn’t end up with the health problems many of my family members had, so joined a gym. I went there for about 3 months, and then stopped. I got pregnant and I purchased an awesome pregnancy program that kept me fit through out my pregnancy and I did it faithfully every night. During my lunch hour I also walked. I got into shape and after having my son I lost weight very quickly. It was amazing! I didn’t do the exercise program anymore, but I kept walking and kept my weight down.

When my son was almost 3 years old, I got remarried and got to stay home with him. I started focusing more on my fitness and health since I had more time. I walked every morning and I made sure my family had healthy meals. However, I needed something more; walking was keeping my weight down but didn’t keep me fit in all areas of my body. That is when I started researching to find fitness programs I could do at home since I had love my pregnancy fitness videos so much. I stumbled upon BeachBody fitness programs and fell in love with them. I started doing them every morning back in November of 2007 and still do them to this day. I change programs all the time since variety is key. I make sure that I do at least one extremely challenging program a year. The other programs I follow maintain my fitness, but it’s good to give my body an extra challenge for 2-3 months every year to not plateau.

In addition to my BeachBody fitness programs, I continued cooking and eating healthy meals and snacks. However, I realized I needed another change since I had lots of stomach problems, reocurring migraines and allergies and the doctors didn’t do much for me. They didn’t give me a real solution to my problem. I decided I wanted to start drinking a health drink since these were so popular, so I asked that people post on my “Fit and Healthy” group on Ryze.com all about the drinks they drank and offered. I did my research, and found one that stood out from all the others because the glycemic level was low (Iwas prediabetic as well) AND it was enhanced with therapeutic-grade oils. I reasearched more about these type of oils and realized they might be the missing link to my health, so I decided to purchase a bottle of NingXia Red to see if it made a difference in my life. I fell in love with it! My immune system got stronger every day and I realized this was the drink I would be drinking every morning for the rest of my life. It’s a concentrated drink, so just an ounce of it was sufficient, so it was perfect! Not only did my migraines stopped reocurring, but I stopped “catching”colds. Though the people around me were getting sick during cold and flu season, and though many had allergies during “allergy season”, I was feeling great. I couldn’t believe it! My husband saw the difference, and decided to drink NingXia Red as well. It made a difference in his life as well! He used to get really bad colds at least three times a year that knocked him down, but he didn’t get those anymore. If he got sick, it would just be for a day and it didn’t affect him majorly. The difference was clear, and we knew we would drink an ounce of this every day.

In addition to the NingXia Red, I started using the therapeutic-grade oils this company offered. I used them instead of aspirin, tylenol, cold medicine, allergy medicine, antibiotic cremes, etc. I also replaced my skin care products, toothpaste, lotion and deodorant for products enhanced with therapeutic-grade oils and the difference was phenomenal! To this day, I continue to use these therapeutic-grade oils, and continue to use them on my family because they have truly enhanced our lives in the most amazing way.

I love being able to be healthy and fit. It’s so nice to wake up in the morning and be able to breathe through my nose, something I hadn’t been able to do for the first 35 years of my life. It’s so wonderful to got through the day with energy and not feel a migraine coming on or terrible cramps in my stomach. It’s great to be able to not have watery eyes and a stuffy nose during allergy season. It’s a mother’s dream to see her kids healthy and be able to reach for a natural medicine when they get a cold or a cough, which will not only help them that day, but will strengthen their immune system so that they don’t get sick very often. I am thankful that I have therapeutic-grade oils in my life, as well as NingXia Red and BeachBody’s fitness programs. All these things have made my life, and the life of my family so amazing!

Raising Childhood Obesity Awareness One Pedal At A Time

Since September is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, it’s the perfect time to highlight the interview with Teddy Herrera made by made by Richard Marti Jr. This amazing 24-year old guy started riding his bike across America on June 5th this year and is riding 75 to 100 miles a day, going three days on and one day off for rest.

Teddy was inspired to start this challenge after coming back from a trip to South America four months ago, where he biked in the beautiful Andes Mountains, meeting people from all across the world. He fell in love with this sport and wanted to do more biking once he got back to the U.S. Well, when he got back, he asked his 10- year-old cousins at his grandmother’s house to go play baseball at the park instead of playing video games all day; they looked at him like he was crazy and shook their head ‘no’. He knew then and there that technology was affecting the lives of kids all across the nation and he took on the challenge to bike across the U.S to raise awareness to Childhood Obesity.

He will have been on this biking “tour” across our great nation for three months this Sunday, September 5th. He confesses that he had not been a cyclist before undertaking this challenge and so this has taken a tremendous feat on his body and mind. His message for the world is to simply take it “one pedal at a time”. We all truly do have to start somewhere on our journey to fitness. We don’t have to be major athletes to take on a fitness challenge, but just be committed, just like Teddy Herrera. Kids across the nation can start getting into shape by cutting out an hour of video games, T.V, computer, or other technological devices, and going out to play with their friends. There are so many things to do! They can go swimming, ride bikes, ride a scooter, go roller-blading, play their favorite sport with a group of friends, etc. In addition, instead of having their parents take them to school every day in a car, they can opt to walk to and from school every day this year.

Teddy Herrera is doing a marvelous thing to create awareness to the childhood obesity epidemic affecting our nation. I wish him all the best as he continues this challenge. If you want to connect with him, you can do so at Facebook, where he is “Teddy Herrera”, and on Twitter, where he is “onepedalatatime”. He also has a website under construction, as well as a blog site at http://acrossamericaforchildhoodobesity.wordpress.com/ , which is a log of where he’s been, who he’s met, and the journeys that he has made and people he’s encountered who have inspired him.

Here’s to Teddy Herrera! An amazing guy who pedaling across the United States raising awareness to childhood obesity, one pedal at a time.
